BS 5837 Survey (OTISS) - Carry out BS 5837 planning surveys (OTISS).

This application is used by professional Arboricultural Consultants to carry out BS 5837:2012 planning surveys on trees (UK development planning) as part of the OTISS system. This app and your GPS-enabled android phone or tablet is an alternative to buying specialised and expensive survey equipment for on-site data collection.

The BS5837 Survey app. works with the www.otiss.co.uk website to provide a range of maps and tools for carrying out BS 5837:2012 planning surveys, providing PDF reports, Excel spreadsheets and CAD drawings to incorporate into your final report.

All users must first register for an account on the OTISS website. A free 30 day evaluation period is allowed, after which an annual subscription will be charged for continued use of the OTISS system - see the OTISS website for more details. Note: this BS5837 Survey application is free to download, evaluate and use – no charges are made to your phone or Google accounts.

The OTISS system works as follows. (i) First, a survey is created on the OTISS website. (ii) The BS 5837 Survey app is then used to download the survey to the Android device. V2.70 We have improved password privacy by allowing users to register and login via Google/Facebook/etc. As long as you use the same email address as used in Google/Facebook/etc, you can use OTISS fully and we never see (or store) your password.

On screen and in reports we now use the common species names e.g. 'Silver Birch'. But when searching for a species on the mobile apps, we have kept the familiar 'genus ordered' lists which groups species together for easier selection.

New in V1.12,CAD drawings (in DWG and DXF formats) can now be directly loaded into OTISS to create site plans. The surveyed tree positions can be exported as DXF files and then easily merged with the site plan using your CAD application.,When loading PDF files and JPEG images to the OTISS server to create site plans, you can now geo-reference the image to overlay it onto the online maps and use GPS to position the trees.
